Abstract
Context and Purpose: In recent years, digital technologies have profoundly transformed tourists’ experiences in the tourism industry, particularly in the hospitality sector. Despite the growing body of research in this field, existing studies remain fragmented and lack an integrated framework. Accordingly, this study aims to identify and synthesize the main dimensions of technology-driven experience in tourism, with an emphasis on hospitality, and to propose a comprehensive conceptual framework.
Design/methodology/approach: This study is developmental–applied in purpose and qualitative in nature, employing a meta-synthesis approach. Data were collected through a systematic review of academic articles published between 2000 and 2024. Out of 50 initially identified studies, 27 eligible articles were selected using the CASP checklist and analyzed through qualitative content analysis and conceptual coding.
Findings: The findings indicate that technology-driven experience in tourism and hospitality can be explained through four core dimensions: the relational dimension (users’ perceptions, emotions, and trust), the behavioral dimension (usability and technological efficiency), the experiential dimension (service personalization, human–technology interaction, and data security), and the innovative dimension (economic value creation, productivity, and competitive advantage).
Conclusion: Effective technology-driven experience in tourism results from a balanced integration of human, functional, and economic aspects of technology. It is recommended that tourism and hospitality managers consider both user experience and economic value creation when designing and implementing digital technologies.
Originality/value: The main contribution of this study lies in presenting an integrated, multi-dimensional framework of technology-driven experience in tourism based on a meta-synthesis approach.
